singularity n.

Is it possible to
achieve singularity?
How close are we?

What are the other technologies? Are there more to be discovered?

How will we know when the technology is advanced enough?

What changes await humanity, and are they beneficial or detrimental?

How do we prepare?

"Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is the last invention that humanity will ever need to make." This quote from Nick Bostrom encapsulates the potential and peril of AGI. At Singularity @ UC San Diego, the first student organization focused solely on AGI, we stand at the forefront of this transformative journey. AGI is akin to the atomic bomb—an invention with the power to redefine our world, for better or worse. It demands our attention, our caution, and our creativity.
Why a student organization? Because students are the architects of the future. We cannot afford to let AGI become the next climate change—a looming threat ignored until it's too late. We must ensure that as we step into industry and academia, we are equipped with the knowledge and foresight to align AGI with humanity's best interests.
This is a creative endeavor. It requires the collaboration of minds from mathematics, computer science, robotics, cognitive science, linguistics, philosophy, data science, economics, and law. We welcome pessimists and optimists, cynics and idealists. AGI development is not a solitary pursuit but a symphony of diverse disciplines.
Our plans are ambitious. We aim to contribute to open-source projects, experiment with lesser-known techniques, and experiment tweaking de facto techniques. We will build environments, construct large language models from scratch, debate policy, quantify existential risks, host inspiring speakers, and learn continuously.
Join us. Help us shape the future responsibly.
